We often say great wine starts in the vineyard, and for Ivanhoe Wines, that journey begins with Stephen Drayton. A fifth-generation vigneron from one of the Hunter Valley’s most iconic winemaking families, Stephen has been nurturing vines and crafting exceptional wines for over fifty years.
Wineries of New South Wales recently sat down with Stephen to talk about his life in viticulture – from growing up among the vines to his love for gutsy Hunter Valley shiraz. He shares why no two days are ever the same, his favourite vintages (2014 still holds a special place), and his thoughts on how winemaking will evolve as his sons Lewis and Parker prepare to carry on the Ivanhoe legacy.
